Musician, Music Teacher, Musical Instrument Technician

I have been a Talented professional standard Musician for over 35 years.

I started to learn how to play the drums when I was only six years old, my older brother (Ted) who at the
time was a drummer in a local pub band asked me one tea time if I would like to learn how to play the drums.
We where all waiting for our Sunday tea so I though go on then it will pass the time away while I’m waiting
for my tea. My brother showed me in only a couple of minutes how to play a simple drum beat on his drum kit,
I learned to play what he had shown me pretty quickly and I was very surprised how much I really enjoyed
playing the drums.

Since then I have taught myself  lots more drum beats over the last 40 years and I have developed my love for
music intensely, I have been able to teach myself how to play several musical instruments using the same methods
I used to learn to play the Drums.

I can competently play the following musical instruments with out any sheet music to help me -

  1. Drums
  2. Guitar
  3. Bass Guitar
  4. Keyboard
  5. Lead Vocal
  6. Harmony Vocal (specialist skill)

I had music lessons with different drum tutors while I was at school and I always struggled to take on board
what they where trying to show me, I received a grade of D minus from my drum tutors who also commented
on my yearly report that I wouldn’t be any good in the music business because I was not interested in reading
any kind of sheet music.

I was heartbroken at 13 years old when my drum teachers told me that I would never be any good at music
and that I should give up music because I wasn’t interested in reading any sheet music, I was really enjoying
music and life but their comments only destroyed my confidence and my beliefs in myself.

In all fairness to them I’m sure that they where trying to do their best with me but I am certain that they did not
use the right teaching methods to bring out the best results in me that I was capable of, this is why I want to help
other people learn about music.

It was not until about 10 years ago that I started to realize why I struggled to learn from professional music
teachers when I found it so easy to learn from my older brother when I was younger. I suspected that it was that
I wasn’t interested in playing what the music teachers where trying to show me which seemed to produced a sub
conscious mental block in my head.

I have experimented with this theory with lots of different students over the last 20 years teaching them only what
they want to learn and I have had outstanding results with them all, These results have convinced me that people
will only learn if they really want to and that the standard of learning something they really want to learn is
incredibly high if they really want to do it.

I have played in different bands playing different musical instruments at various top music venues in the U.K. for
over 30 years and I am a very accomplished musician, I am also praised very highly from other musicians in the
music business throughout the U.K.

I enjoy music very much and it has always played a big part in my life and I have never had to read music in all
my time of playing in bands, but yet my drum teachers where trying to force sheet music into my head.

I would really like to pass on my musical skills and tricks of the trade to other people that might have struggled
like I did when I was younger, I would also like to help people who may also lack the confidence to really
believe it’s possible.

I believe learning to play a musical instrument should be a pleasurable pastime and not a miserable chore like
my drum teachers had me believe it was when I was still at school.

Teaching several people how to play a musical instrument over the years was so rewarding and made me feel
so proud of what we where able to achieve with them also working together to find the best methods possible
for them to learn more. I would also try to make all my students believe they can learn to play something they
never thought they could within a few classes.

I feel very confidently that if you are shown in the easiest possible way you can achieve anything you want to
within your own personal limits.

  1. e.g. 1

I have been told by a lot of so called guitar players over the years that my little finger on my left hand is not
long enough or strong enough to play the guitar and that I cannot possibly hope to be able to play the guitar
anywhere near good enough to play in a successful band. I have been blessed with having the same hereditary
condition as my father possessing a half sized little finger but this has never stopped me playing to the high
standard that I have played at for the last 30 years or so with different band and musicians. I am proud to say
that in all my time of performing at various venues in the U.K. I have never been booed off or paid off for
my musical performance not being good enough.

  1. e.g.2

The Drummer in the band “Def Leopard” (of world recognition) has only one arm as he lost his complete left
arm in a car accident, it didn’t stop him from playing again and he still plays drums with his band and also to
a standard a lot higher than everyone could ever imagine.

  1. e.g.3

Evelyn Glennie (International recognition) is a very versatile musician, can you believe that this incredibly
talented female musician is totally Deaf, yes you read that right Deaf.

I believe in music and with the technology we have in the world today that anyone can be a successful musician.
If people really want to work to their physical and mental capabilities and have someone to watch over them
who has good simple teaching methods and believes in their capabilities they will.

I feel very strongly towards people that have had the confidence taken away from them by other individuals in
and around their everyday life and I am hoping I can restore others confidence and help them to make their
dreams a reality by becoming a music teacher.
